In a bid to cater to the growing gas demand, GAIL India Limited is planning to set up small liquefaction facilities. This will help transport gas from isolated fields and cater to gas demands in which lack pipeline access. Two small-scale liquefaction skids capable of producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) on a trial basis have been ordered by GAIL. Reportedly, these plants will help in the distribution of natural gas through liquefication in new city gas distribution areas and support the setting up of LNG-fueling stations and bunkering. Additionally, the country will be developing portable and scalable liquefaction equipment for the first time. GAIL is also looking at the possibility of manufacturing liquefaction skids in India.
