For taking the environmentally friendly natural gas to the Kashmir Valley, the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is planning to lay a pipeline to Srinagar and has doubled down on efforts on infrastructure expansion, keeping in mind the government’s vision of a gas-based economy. At present, GAIL is in the process of getting an authorisation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board for the 425-km Gurudaspur to Srinagar pipeline via Jammu. Due to the presence of tough terrain and few customers at present, the project is in the need of a viability gap funding from the government.
