GAIL (India) Limited has completed laying a 348 km long pipeline from Dobhi in Bihar to Durgapur in West Bengal. The pipeline entailing an investment of Rs 24.33 billion is part of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga project that aims to take natural gas to the country’s eastern parts. The project has connected the end point of legacy gas pipelines at Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh to the eastern states of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha.

The Dobhi-Durgapur natural gas pipeline is expected to revive the fertiliser plant at Sindri in Jharkhand and supply gas to Matix fertiliser plant at Durgapur. Moreover, it will also facilitate natural gas supply to the industrial, commercial, domestic and automobile sectors in major towns of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha.
