In a notable development, GAIL (India) Limited has commissioned the first small scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh. It entailed an investment of Rs 1.5 billion.

The Vijaipur facility features small scale LNG skids with combined production capacity of 36 tonnes per day (tpd), alongside associated liquid handling systems. 

The LNG from the plant will be transported via cryogenic LNG tankers to neighbouring regions for utilisation in city gas distribution (CGD) networks, including compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG), as well as for upcoming LNG filling stations to fuel medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
