In a notable development, Delhi and Mumbai have become the country’s first cities to get mobile compressed natural gas (CNG) filling service. The service will facilitate availability of CNG at the doorstep of consumers and expand access to areas with limited number of CNG stations in Delhi and Mumbai.

Indraprastha Gas Limited designed the mobile refuelling units for Delhi-NCR whereas, Mahanagar Gas Limited designed the units for Mumbai. The Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation served as the co-developer in both the cities. Each mobile refuelling unit carries 1,500 kg of CNG and can refuel 100-150 vehicles at an average of 10 kg each.

In Delhi, the service has been started with deployment of one unit in Vasant Kunj area, which has scarcity of CNG stations.
