The sales of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Gujarat have bounced back and even surpassed the pre-Covid levels. Incessant hike in petrol and diesel prices, demand growth after easing of curbs imposed due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as addition of new stations by city gas distribution companies have pushed up CNG sales.
The rush for opting CNG can also be witnessed from the fact that about 30 vehicles used to be converted to CNG daily in Ahmedabad during pre-Covid times, while this number doubled to 60 just before the second wave of the pandemic due to soaring petrol and diesel prices. Further, the Union Government’s push for adoption of clean fuels has also facilitated growth in CNG consumption.
