A fleet of 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) fuelled AC buses is set to operate in Guwahati by the second half of 2022 under the Guwahati Smart City Limited. With an estimated investment of Rs 911.2 million for 100 CNG-fuelled buses, the buses will be running in other cities of the state in a phased manner once proven cost and environment effective.
While setting up of CNG-filling stations is a must in Guwahati, the first CNG-filling station may come up in Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) premises. Further, a national tender has been floated for the procurement of buses. Once procured, the Guwahati Smart City Limited will be handing over the CNG-fuelled AC buses to the ASTC for operation.
