The Union government has laid the foundation stone for the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar city gas distribution (CGD) project entailing an investment of Rs 10.1 billion.

The project would provide piped natural gas (PNG) supply to over 0.25 million households across the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts in West Bengal. Besides domestic supply, the project would also cater to commercial and industrial consumers.

Additionally, as part of the minimum work programme target, around 19 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations are also planned under the project.
