Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) are likely to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up wet waste to biogas plant at Mumbai. BMC is likely to allot land for setting up the plant while the project cost will be borne by MGL.

The plant will have the capacity to process 1,000 tonnes of waste per day.

Mumbai generates about 6,400 metric tonnes of waste everyday. Out of this, around 3,500 tonnes is wet waste. The plant would use around one third of the wet waste to produce biogas.
