In a notable development, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting waste to compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Guwahati, Assam.
OIL would undertake the construction activities of the plant while GMC would provide the wet waste. The plant would be set up on the outskirts of the city and is likely to process 75 tonnes per day (tpd) wet waste to produce around 2 tpd methane gas along with other bio-gases. The MoU envisages collaborative efforts for setting up the plant.
Guwahati generates around 240 tpd wet waste. Out of which, 75 tpd would be processed by OIL.
Besides, GMC is setting up another plant for the conversion of over 150 tpd wet waste into energy.
