Municipal Corporation house has approved the proposal for setting up municipal solid waste (MSW) based compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Samgauli village in Derabassi.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Renewable and Green Energy Limited (HPRGE) is planning to set up 300 tonnes per day CBG plant in covering local bodies Mohali, Zirakpur, Derabassi, Nayagaon, Kurali, Lalru, and Banur. The project is likely to be developed at an area of around 15-20 acres of land Approval for the same was submitted by HPRGE to Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company in August 2024. Besides, sites have been allocated for similar projects in Jalandhar and Patiala.
Under the proposal HPRGE is likely to conduct feasibility study, soil investigation and project planning and make capital investment required for the project.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed between Municipal Corporation and HPRGE for the proposed plant, followed by a wet waste or concession agreement and long term lease agreement subject to feasibility and other approvals.
