The Assam Gas Company Limited targets for the addition of 100 new connections a day, with the number of connections currently standing at around 84 a day.
A total of around 70,000 connections have been achieved so far in the six districts of Upper Assam. Moreover, city gas distribution (CGD) companies in the state have been directed to meet the targets of mandatory switch to piped natural gas (PNG) in connected areas as per the timeline specified, and urban bodies have been mandated to approve new CGD permissions within 24 hours. The move is in line with efforts to fast-track the expansion of PNG and compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure in the state.
