Reportedly, the Union Government has approved 41 biogas cylinder filling and storage plants since March 2026, with licences subsequently issued to 14 of these facilities.
Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) received 467 applications for compressed natural gas (CNG) and compressed biogas (CBG) dispensing stations between March 25, 2026 and April 21, 2026 all of which were disposed of on a priority basis. Of these, final licences were granted in 157 cases, while 38 prior approvals were issued for the construction of new CNG and CBG dispensing stations. It also issued directions for setting a 10-day processing deadline for CNG station and decompression unit applications to accelerate infrastructure rollout.
Among the long-term facilitative measures, Centre also issued guidelines to install District Pressure Regulating Skids (DPRS) at CNG and CBG stations to address land constraints and expand dispensing capacity and granted six-month exemption from compressor approvals effective April 1, 2026 to speed up new station commissioning.
