The Belagavi compressed biogas (CBG) plant project, under the Central Government’s GOBARdhan Scheme, has been stalled due to unavailability of suitable land.

The project, being implemented by GAIL (India) Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 542 million, was earlier proposed within the Turmuri waste management facility to be built on an area of 10 acres. However, it was called off due to protests from local villagers.

Following which, the Belagavi City Corporation identified an alternative location and forwarded the proposal to the Urban Development Department for approval. The proposal for the same was granted on November 20, 2025 but land allocation still remains unresolved.
