The Government of India (GoI) has extended the National Piped Natural Gas (PNG) Drive 2.0 by three months until June 30, 2026, from its earlier deadline of March 31, 2026, to accelerate PNG adoption amid the ongoing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shortage.

India added over 3.1 lakh new PNG connections in March 2026 across domestic and commercial users, with 2.7 lakh connections issued during the period.

Besides, city gas distribution (CGD) companies including Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), GAIL Gas Limited, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) are offering incentives such as free gas worth Rs 500, waiver of registration charges and security deposit waivers for domestic and commercial consumers.
