The Government of Kerala (GoK) inaugurated the Brahmapuram Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant in Kochi, Kerala on February 27, 2026.

The project implemented by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is set up over an area of 10 acres and to process 150 tonnes of solid waste to produce around 5.6 metric tonnes (mt) of CBG 128 tonnes of solid and liquid organic manure to be supplied to BPCL’s Kochi Refinery at an investment of Rs 900 million.

Additionally, similar plants are planned to be set up in other districts like Kozhikode, Kollam, Palakkad, Thrissur and Kottayam.
