With a gradual rise in gas consumption by generators, the sale of gas gensets and dual fuel use technologies has picked up pace, primarily because of city gas distribution (CGD) expansion and gas being a cleaner and cheaper alternative. Further, several technologies have been developed for cutting down operating expense of diesel gensets (DGs). For instance, Eden Innovations India has developed a dual-fuel technology, capable of cutting diesel usage up to 70 per cent. Although DGs are cheaper than gas gensets, natural gas still stands to gain due to an expected rise in diesel prices, currently hovering at Rs 96-97 per litre.
